Georgia, China discuss expansion of education cooperation

Georgia: The Georgian Minister of Education, Science and Youth, Givi Mikanadze, met with the Deputy Minister of Education of the People’s Republic of China, Zhen Yotsun, on Saturday, November 15, 2025.

The Ministry of Education, Science, and Youth of Georgia shared the glimpses of the meeting on its official Facebook Page on November 15, 2025. The Georgian Ministry also shared a small note about the meeting, along with its glimpses.

According to the small note shared by the ministry, it should be noted that at the meeting, the parties discussed ways to expand cooperation and the implementation of joint educational projects.

The fruitful partnership between Georgia and China was emphasized and highlighted in strengthening future relations in general, vocational, and higher education.

Givi Mikanadze expressed his desire to renew the memorandum signed between ministries. According to him, the document, signed in 2001, no longer meets modern requirements and needs to be replaced. The parties agreed that work on the updated document will begin in 2026.

During the meeting, the focus was also on the preparation of the necessary staff training in parallel with the growth of Chinese language teaching in Georgia, the arrangement of digital classrooms in schools, the integration of artificial intelligence in the learning process, the operation of Confucius Institutes in universities, and the strengthening of links between vocational and higher education institutions.

It was noted that from next year, a working group will start, whose members will regularly discuss various topical issues within the framework of bilateral cooperation.

The Deputy Minister of Education of the People’s Republic of China expressed his gratitude for the recent steps taken in terms of the development of Chinese language teaching in Georgia and expressed his full readiness to expand cooperation with the Georgian side.

The meeting was attended by Zviad Gabisonia, Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Youth, Deputy Director General of Shota Rustaveli, Levan Karumidze, Emergency and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Georgia to the People’s Republic of China, Paata Kalandadze, Ministry of Education of the People’s Democratic Republic of China, and the Center for Language Education and Cooperation.
