Georgia hosts Global Human Rights Bureau meeting

Georgia: The Office of the Public Defender of Georgia hosted a meeting of the Bureau of the Global Alliance of National Institutes of Human Rights (GANHRI) on December 3 and 4, 2025.

The Public Defender of Georgia shared the glimpses of the meeting on its official Facebook Page on Tuesday, December 9, 2025. The Public Defender also shared a small note about the meeting, along with its glimpses.

The members of the Bureau met in Georgia to assess the progress of the implementation of the Strategic Plan for 2023-2027 and discuss key priorities in supporting National Institutes of Human Rights (NHRIs) worldwide.

The meeting held in Georgia was attended by members of the bureau from all four regions of GANHRI, as well as representatives of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), and GANHRI regional networks.

In his welcome speech at the bureau meeting, Georgian Public Defender Levan Ioseliani spoke about the importance of active participation and involvement of the Public Defender apparatus in the activities of the Global Alliance of National Institutes of Human Rights.

First Deputy Public Defender of Georgia Tamar Gvaramadze will be a member of the GANHRI bureau from March 2025 and will hold this authority for 3 years.

GANHRI bureau approved 2026 work plans, which will determine the main directions of next year’s activities. In addition, the Bureau heard a report on the work of the Accreditation Subcommittee (SCA) and discussed issues related to the accreditation of the National Institutes of Human Rights.

The Office of the Public Ombudsman of Georgia continues to actively participate in GANHRI activities and global platforms, further strengthening Georgia’s role in the agenda of the International Human Rights Day.

The event was held co-financed by the EU project – “Support of the Public Defender’s Apparatus”.
