Adjara, Georgia: The Minister of Health and Social Protection of Adjara, Nino Nizharadze, together with the First Deputy, met with the medical staff of Batumi International Hospital (BAU) and introduced them to the program news.
The Ministry of Health & Social Affairs of Ajara shared the glimpses of the meeting on its official Facebook Page on February 10, 2026, Tuesday. The Georgian Health Ministry also shared a small note about the meeting along with its glimpses.
In 2026, the Ministry of Health of Adjara started financing lipid-depressing therapy. Patients with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease registered with a combined base of socially vulnerable people with a rating of 100,000 can benefit from this innovative service. The goal of the program is to prevent cardiovascular disease mortality and increase access to expensive medical services.
The Ministry, under the Additional Medical Services Program of Heart Surgery, also funds the co-payment of cardiac surgery operations funded by the State Universal Health Care Program, thus fully funding cardiac surgery in Adjara.
Last year, the Ministry of Health of Adjara started financing the expensive transcatheteral implantation (TAVI). This procedure is less invasive and is critical in high-risk patients.
The Ministry will fund expensive planned studies for diagnosing heart diseases, such as angiography of the heart or coronary arteries, endocardial electrophysiological research, cardioversion, and others. This year, 4,500 patients will benefit from the program, and 4,500,000 GEL will be allocated.
During his visit to Batumi International Hospital, the minister gave a token of gratitude to the well-known doctors, cardiologist Merab Khvichia and anesthesiologist Otar Vanadze, for their contribution to the health care of the people of Adjara.
