Georgia: Authorities reveal Illegal Logging in Imereti

Imereti, Georgia: The employees of the Western Regional Authority of the Environmental Supervision Department of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture have revealed the facts of illegal logging in Imereti as part of the fight against illegal forestry.

The Environment Supervision Department of Georgia shared the glimpses of illegal logging in Imereti on its official Facebook Page on March 11, 2026, Wednesday. The Ministry also shared a small note about this along with its photographs.

Violations of the law were reported in the village of Gedsamania of Kharagauli municipality, in the state forest. Removed from the territory, and 11 units ofred-spottedtree (seal) of the National Forest Agency have been transferred to the relevantworking yardof the National Forestry Agency.

The damage caused to the environment as a result of law violations is more than 2100 GEL. The materials were sent to the appropriate order for further response.

“Protecting natural resources is a priority for the Department of Environmental Supervision. With stricter legislation, increased controls, and the active use of modern technologies in recent years, there has been a downward trend in illegal logging. However, as poaching continues to be a challenge, strict controls continue across the country.

As a result, more than 300 cases of illegal forestry have been revealed in the Western Regional Authority’s operational territory in 2025, said Zviad Shurghaya, Deputy Head of the Environmental Supervision Department.

Crews of the Environmental Oversight Department are patrolling 24 hours throughout the country to detect, detect, and prevent illegal forest use and other environmental violations promptly. Immediate response is made to each message received on the Ministry hotline (153).
