The Chairman of the Communications Commission, Goga Gulordava,met with ComCom member Natia Kukuladze, the State Commissioner of Samegrelo-Upper Svaneti David Verava, the mayors of Chkhorotsku, Zugdidi, Khobi, Tsalenjikha, and Senaki municipalities, as well as the deputy mayors of Abashi and Martvili.
The main topic of the meeting was the state program of internetization. The Chairman of the Communications Commission provided detailed information on the development of broadband infrastructure in the region and the “digital support program” within the project and announced the existing results.
The total volume of completed and ongoing works under the Internetization Program will cover 3000 km of infrastructure by the end of 2025, creating new opportunities for up to 260,000 residents. Under the program, using the infrastructure built by the company Open Net by 2025, already 18 internet providers and 3 mobile operators are using and providing services to more than 100,000 residents and more than 100 schools in 14 municipalities.
During the meeting, Goga Gulordava spoke in detail about the “Digital Support Program”, which includes free training on digital literacy and safe internet use for people living in targeted settlements. “So far, we have protected 20 municipalities of 5 regions of Georgia and trained up to 12,000 people.” In the Samegrelo-Upper Svaneti region, the program has already been implemented in 6 municipalities, and currently it is in progress in Martvili. In total, about 5000 people in 100 villages have been trained in the region,” Gulordava noted.
Two new modules have been added to the program: “Artificial Intelligence Literacy” and “Internet for Employment,” aimed at administrative staff, educators, students, and seniors.
During the meeting, the State Commissioner and the mayors of the municipalities discussed the problems and challenges in the region related to mobile and landline Internet. At the end of the meeting, the local government representatives and the communications commission chairman agreed to work together to meet the needs of the people in the region.
