A meeting was held between the Minister of Culture of Georgia, Tinatin Rukhadze and UNESCO Director General, Khaled El-Enani. During the meeting, UNESCO’s important contribution to the preservation and promotion of the cultural heritage of Georgia, as well as its diverse culture, was noted.
The meeting discussed the planned events within the framework of cooperation with UNESCO, including the active participation of Georgia in the celebration of the Day of Cultural Diversity and the International Day of Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2026, as well as the celebration of the anniversary of the illustrator and painter Mikhai Zichy with Hungary in 2027. He paid attention to Georgia’s participation in “MONDIACULT 2025” and emphasized the importance of cultural heritage protection in crises.
Attention was focused on the achievements and challenges of Georgia in the field of cultural rights and cultural economy.
The discussion touched on projects implemented by Georgia in terms of cultural heritage protection, including the rehabilitation process of Gelati Monastery, which is being carried out in cooperation with the UNESCO World Heritage Committee and relevant consultative bodies. They talked about the UNESCO expert mission in Mtskheta.
Underlined the importance of culture in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and promoting peace, and noted UNESCO’s important role in this regard.
The parties emphasized the importance of joint projects in the field of culture and confirmed their readiness to continue cooperation. Tinatin Rukhadze invited the UNESCO Director General to Georgia. At the meeting, it was agreed that Khaled El-Enan will visit Georgia on a working visit in the near future.
The meeting was attended by Zurab Bakuradze, Head of the Department of International Relations of the Ministry of Culture of Georgia and Ambassador of Emergency and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the French Republic, Permanent Representative of Georgia to UNESCO Irakli Kurashvili.
