The Minister of State, Thea Akhvlediani, held a meeting with the members of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Assembly Imo Brunet and Suba Umatevan and the Secretary General of the Assembly, Leticia Kurtua.
The meeting focused on the special task of continuing and ensuring the effectiveness of the process of searching for missing persons as a result of the Russian-Georgian war in August 2008, armed actions of the 1990s, and their continuation and effectiveness.
The Minister of State stressed the importance of the role and active involvement of the International Committee of the Red Cross as a neutral mediator and humanitarian participant in the program of searching for missing persons and supporting their families in Georgia.
The efforts made in intensive collaboration with the International Committee of the Red Cross were noted, according to the findings and recommendations of the strategic research conducted by the International Committee of the Red Cross, on the ongoing transformation process of the missing persons search, which, in large part, implies the state involved in the implementation of the program, gradually increasing the role of grievances.
At the meeting, the Minister of State presented a presentation in order to summarize the activities and share detailed information, which included the results achieved, current challenges, and future visions to determine the fate and location of the missing persons in Georgia from the 1990s to the current stage.
Representatives of the Assembly of the International Committee of the Red Cross have positively assessed the ongoing activities and efforts made by the International Committee of the Red Cross for the purpose of identifying the fate of the missing persons in Georgia.
The parties agreed to continue their close cooperation. Ann Montavoni, head of delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Georgia, and ICRC Ambassador Anies Kotu attended the meeting held in the government administration.
