Georgia strengthens UK Education Ties

As part of his working visit to Great Britain, the Deputy Minister met with Miranda Williamson, Director of Partnerships and Communications at The Cambridge Trust, where the parties discussed prospects for bilateral cooperation.

The meeting gave special attention to the issues of co-financing of young researchers and master’s degree students, the possibilities of developing joint research programs, and the involvement of Rustaveli Georgian National Scientific Foundation in this regard.

Miranda Williamson expressed her willingness to support the development of joint research programs, which will significantly enhance the international capabilities of Georgian students and researchers.

Zviad Gabisonia also held a meeting with Richard Everitt, Director of Global Development at Cambridge Judge Business School. The parties discussed the implementation of innovative teaching methods in the higher education system, opportunities for integrating AI, and challenges associated with the process. Zviad Gabisonia spoke in detail about the legislative framework in Georgia and noted that Georgia is one of the first countries to sign the Convention on Artificial Intelligence and Human Rights of the Council of Europe.

The Members of the Georgian delegation visited the unique exposition of the development of technologies at the University’s Computer History Center.

The Deputy Minister was also hosted by the Education Advisor of Cambridge University Publishing House, Kate Giddens. Participants of the meeting discussed issues of deepening cooperation in education and research between the two countries. Zviad Gabisonia introduced Kate Giddens to the current developments in the Georgian higher education system and a new vision for the development of the quality of education.

The parties have paid special attention to strategic areas that will contribute to the sustainable development of the education system. The meeting was attended by the Director of the British Council in Georgia and the Head of the South Caucasus Mission, Zaza Purtseladze.
