Georgia celebrates 1700th Anniversary of Christianity with Grand Concert

With the support of the Ministry of Culture, a festival dedicated to the 1700th anniversary of the declaration of Christianity as a state religion in Georgia was opened.

The concert was attended by the Patriarchal/State Chamber Choir of the Trinity Cathedral and the Festival Orchestra led by the conductor Svimon Jangulashvili. Group music and Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 10 (Derrick Cook’s editorial).

Within the event, the Minister of Culture of Georgia addressed the attending society. She noted, “I am glad that the festival dedicated to the 1700th anniversary of the declaration of Christianity as the state religion in Georgia was opened with such a successful concert.”

She thanked the CatholicPatriarch of the whole of Georgia for their trust and prayer-blessing, the artistic directors of the festival, Svimon Jangulashvili and Zviad Bolkvadze, for the interesting program and hard work. “Also, I express special thanks to the Government of Georgia and personally to the Prime Minister of Georgia for their support,” the Culture Minister added.

“I’m sure, throughout the year, the festival will provide unforgettable impressions to thousands of audience. “I thank all the participants and the audience of this evening for the emotion that made this day really special,” said Tinatin Rukhadz.

In connection with the 1700th anniversary of the declaration of Christianity as a state religion in Georgia, with the support of the state, within the festival “Georgia Christian State -1700”, various cultural events will be held until the end of this year. Georgian and foreign musicians-performers, soloists, ensembles, groups, and orchestras will participate in them.

The art heads of the project are Svimon Jangulashvili and Zviad Bolkvadze. The event was attended by the wife of the President of Georgia, Mikheil Kavelashvili, Tamar Bagrationi, representatives of the Patriarchate of Georgia, deputies of the Minister of Culture of Georgia, representatives of the Legislative Authority, and the Diplomatic Corps.
