A scientific conference was held on the topic “Climate Conditions-Challenges in Plant Protection,” organized by the National Food Agency. The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, David Songhulashvili, addressed the participants of the conference with a welcome speech.

The National Food Agency of Georgia shared the glimpses of the scientific conference on its official Facebook Page on June 8, 2026, Monday. The Agency also shared a small note about the event along with its glimpses.

The Minister highlighted the challenges posed by global climate change and stressed the importance of engaging all relevant circles.

The representatives of the agencies within the Ministry’s system talked in detail about the developments created by the climate conditions and the state programs that are being implemented to respond to the challenges.

It was noted that monitoring and poisoning of Asian smallpox are actively underway, and measures against Italian and Moroccan cocoon in East Georgia. Within the framework of the conference, the participants also discussed the challenges created in the field of beekeeping.

“Today’s meeting is a good platform to talk about the challenges and risks associated with excessive rainfall.” “The recommendations developed during the conference will help both farmers and people working in agriculture to minimize risks,” said Giorgi Iakobashvili, the head of the National Food Agency.

It should be noted that at this stage in Georgia, the uneven peak distribution of rainfall is observed, when excessive rainfall is followed by a long dry period. The mentioned climatic environment creates favorable conditions for the spread of various diseases of plants and threatens the yield of several crops (fruits, grapes, seeds).

Therefore, the involvement of farmers and taking appropriate measures on time is of utmost importance. Participants discussed in the working format and made recommendations to help farmers implement appropriate measures promptly and avoid potential risks.

The conference was attended by farmers, field associations, representatives of scientific circles, and institutions in the ministry.
