The Employees of the Environmental Supervision Department of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, from May 1 to May 31, 2026, detected 642 violations of the Waste Management Code.
The Environmental Supervision Department of Georgia shared the snippets of the violations of the Waste Management Code that were found in the country, on its official Facebook Page on June 15, 2026, Monday. The Department also shared some details that were related to the violations.
Out of 123 offenses, the facts of environmental delay with municipal waste:
- 42 – environmental delay with construction or other complex material,
- 41 – open burning of municipal non-hazardous waste or in an unintended fuel plant,
- 21 – pollution of the area with sewerage and/or straw waste,
- 9 – environmental delay/pollution with animal waste,
- 70 – company waste Related to the harvest Non-fulfillment of special obligations,
- 15 – non-fulfillment with hazardous waste management requirements and obligations,
- 321 – other violations.
Most – 167 violations were recorded in Kakheti, 136 – Lower Kartli, 67 – Shida Kartli, 53 – Samegrelo-Upper Svaneti, 45 – Imereti, 45 – Mtskheta-Mtianeti, 41 – Adjara, 18 – Samtskhe-Javakheti, 2 – Guria.
Violations were reported in the capital as well. In May this year, 68 cases of violation of the Waste Management Code were revealed in Tbilisi.
Implementing effective state control over waste management is a priority for the Department of Environmental Supervision. The Department’s crews conduct 24-hour, continuous patrols throughout the country to prevent, detect, and suppress environmental violations promptly. In addition, an immediate response is provided to each message received on the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture’s hotline (153).
