A summary event of the winner of the contest of student projects of Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University – “Research of Adjara Herpetophuna” and the awarding of participants was held.
The Department of Student Career Development, Culture and Sports (BSU) of Georgia shared the glimpses of the event on its Official Facebook Page on June 17, 2026, Wednesday. The Department also shared a small note about the meeting along with its glimpses.
The event was attended by BSU Rector Tite Aroshidze, Deputy Rector, and Administration representatives. They gave certificates to project participants and talked about the importance of the work carried out.
The head of the project is Alexander Khakhva, a first-year student of the BSU Faculty of Natural Sciences and Health Care. Within the scope of the project, field expeditions were carried out in the Mtirala and Kintrish protected areas, searching, studying, and identifying Adjara herpetofauna species. Participants got hands-on learning about basic methods of safety, first aid, and herpetological research. Workshops were also held in schools, and informational brochures were prepared to raise awareness about the ecological importance of undergarments.
At the summary event, pupils of the school “Euro-2000”, the school “Taobi”, the Batumi 16th public school, and the Kobuleti municipality public school were awarded certificates. Also, the head of the project is Aleksandre Khakhva, a student of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Health Care of BSU, PhD student Mariam Romanadze, first-year students of Ecology, and first aid volunteer Giorgi Mortuladze.
The project promoted awareness of herpetology, overcoming herpetophobia, and developing teamwork skills in Adjara schools, which was significantly contributed to by field expeditions.
