Georgia: The Agricultural Scientific-Research Center of Georgia (SRCA) took part in the festival “Golden Head – Revived Tradition of Georgian Wheat” to celebrate the international recognition of Georgian wheat culture.
The Georgian Scientific and Research Center of Agriculture (SRCA) shared the glimpses of the festival event on its official Facebook Page on June 21, 2026, Sunday. The Scientific Research Center of Georgia also shared a small note about the event along with its glimpses.
Center Director Levan Ujmajuridze addressed the participants of the event, who discussed the importance of protecting endemic Georgian wheat varieties and preserving agro-biodiversity.
The Director noted, “Georgia is the primary source of bread and wheat.” Searching for, protecting, researching, and preserving endemic species and local varieties of Georgian wheat for future generations is an important part of safeguarding our country’s agro-diversity and cultural heritage.”
“At the same time, it is no less important to promote Georgian wheat culture and raise awareness of the society about its unique nutritional properties. Such events promote the presentation of Georgian wheat as an important part of our history and identity, and the growth of interest in it,” said Levan Ujmajuridze.
During the festival, the Center presented samples of Georgian wheat, endemic species of curry, and local varieties, printed scientific and informational materials related to the protection of agrobiodiversity.
Guests had the opportunity to get acquainted with the activities of the center in the field of researching, protecting, and conserving the genetic resources of plants. Samples of wine made from rare Georgian grape varieties protected at the base of Jighaura were also presented.
The Festival “Golden Head – Revived Tradition of Georgian Wheat” is dedicated to popularizing the ancient traditions of bread-baking and presenting Georgian wheat culture. The event was organized by the “Georgian Wheat” Union.
