A presentation of the complete set of the dissident magazine “Golden Witness” (covering the years 1975–1976) was held in the Shota Rustaveli Hall of the Parliament of Georgia.
The Ministry of Culture of Georgia shared glimpses of the presentation event of the magazine on its official Facebook page on September 18, 2026, Friday. A small note about the event was also shared along with its highlights.
The event was attended by:
- Maia Bitadze, Minister of Culture of Georgia;
- Shalva Papuashvili, Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia;
- Giorgi Gabunia, Chairman of the Culture Committee;
- Mikheil Kiknadze, Deputy Minister of Culture;
- Konstantine Gamsakhurdia, General Director of the National Library.
In her welcoming remarks, the Minister of Culture, Maia Bitadze highlighted the significance of the publication. She said, “I would like to congratulate you on the publication of the full set of the highly important dissident magazine “Golden Witness”.
According to her, “One of the most important documents of our recent history is becoming available to the general public. It is particularly noteworthy that the reader can now view this unique heritage in its entirety, as issues of the magazine had been bibliographical rarities for years. The process of searching for, collecting, and digitally restoring the materials, and then uniting them into a single publication, is the result of professionalism, hard work, and dedication.”
“This exemplifies the unique nature of the ‘Giant Books’ project: historical materials scattered across various archives, repositories, and private collections are reunited and returned to society,” said Maia Bitadze.
The Minister thanked the authors and those who implemented the project for their contributions to locating and recovering the materials. The “Golden Witness” magazine was published as part of the “Giant Books” project, with the support of the National Library.
