Lieutenant with the Coweta county sheriff’s office were called to a house on East Gordon Road on Thursday, October 22, 2026, after reports of gunfire. Inside, they found a man who had been hit by bullets.

Detectives named the suspect as Traron Cannon, a Newnan resident. Witnesses told officers that Cannon and the victim shared the home and had argued the previous evening.
The sheriff’s office has not said what the argument was about.
By the time assistance arrived,Cannon had left.Investigators worked with several law administration agencies and used Flock licence plate readers and other technology to follow his vehicle south, more than 100 miles from Newnan. The series ended in Cook County, where assistant from the local sheriff’s office arrested him without incident.
Cannon is being held in Cook County Jail on charges of worsened assault and control of a firearm during the commission of a crime . He is expected to be transferred to the Coweta County Jail to face the charges there.
