A Senator and Congressman from US is on a visit to Georgia

Senator Jeanne Shaheen and Congressman Mike Turner from the United States of America are on a visit to Georgia. They met President Salome Zurabishvili on August 9 and will meet other key leaders and officials of Georgia to discuss a range of topics.

They  have on the agenda to meet Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidge. At the same time they plan to meet representatives of the Georgian Government as well as leaders of ruling and opposition parties. Both of them will   meet members of non-governmental organizations and civil society.

Meanwhile the US Embassy in Tbilisi   issued a statement on the visit of the US representative to Georgia. As per the statement  the visit is proof that the United States of America’s support for Georgia’s integrity, sovereignty, and independence will continue as usual.  Similarly following the meeting with the President, the Presidential Administration   issued a separate statement. The statement recognised the USA’s unwavering support for Georgia’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and Euro-Atlantic aspirations.  

The statement from president office  said that Georgia and its citizens will always remain indebted to the United States of America for their support. The press release  from the president’s office stated that the USA’s representatives have lauded the President’s personal efforts on the path of Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic integration.

It is worth noting that both visitors to the USA blamed the ruling party for implementing the foreign agents law despite the president’s veto. According to them this unilateral step damaged Georgian democracy and affected bilateral relations to a large extent.  The Georgian President said at the meeting that the October election for the Parliament is very important. The election will determine the future of Georgia’s progress towards the European    and it would serve as a referendum on the ruling regime’s policies.

President during the meeting  said that Georgia saw a great future with the integration with the European Union. The steps in this direction will be taken. The USA members added that they also have planned to visit the Russian Occupied territories to assess the ground reality here.
