The Georgian leader of opposition parties have been booked for violent persecution. The leader namely Aleksandre Elisashvili was however released on bail after completing legal formalities.
Aleksandre Elisashvili, is prominent leader of “Strong Georgia Coalition” which is main domestic opposition party. The law enforcement agencies after charging him under different provisions of law was later on leased on bail on Monday.
This significant development came after his assault on Ali Babayev. Notably Babayev is the current chairman of the National Congress of Georgian Azerbaijanis. Moreover, Babayev is also an active members of ruling party Georgia Dream. It is worth to note accused have attacked him due to his different political attachment. He was attacked early this month.
Tbilisi City Court earlier found Elisashvili guilty of “persecution committed using violence or threats of violence” in the attack, which came on the backdrop of ongoing public protests the Government’s decision to delay European Union accession talks until 2028 and sentenced him to preventive detention.
A court of capital city Tbilisi also found him guilty of violence and threat in a direct attack. The attacks were reported due to ongoing violence against the innocent people who are protesting the ruling party for suspending talks of European Integration in European Union.
It is also to be noted by all that he was later released by the police force by granting conditional bail. An amount of ₾4,000 ($1,423) was imposed as condition for bail on accused by authorities also.
While talking about the bail the office of prosecutor stated argued that although the threats and fears of violences are still possible from across country, but office don’t believe in continue imprisonment of leaders.
Elisashvili on the other hand after bail expressed his gratitude towards people. According to him he will now fight for those who are still in custody of authorities. He said that every Georgian citizen have right to hold peacefully protest anywhere. So Georgian Dream should recognise this rights of peacefully protest also.
