Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University hosted an international conference on Biodiversity. The main theme was “Study, protection, preservation, wise use of a separate component of biodiversity”.
This was held on the 65th anniversary of the Institute of Phytopathology and Biodiversity of BSU. Researchers and scientists from leading scientific and educational institutions in Georgia, Poland, Turkey, the Netherlands, Canada, Switzerland, and Italy participated in the conference.
The two-day conference was also supported by the autonomous region of Adjara administration and the Ministry of Education, Culture, and Sports.On the first day, the conference was inaugurated by the acting Rector of BSU Professor Merab Khalvash.
In his speech he focused on the important stages of the institute’s 65-year development and its future prospects and also emphasised the importance of scientific research in preserving biodiversity.
In addition he thanked the scientists and partners whose work contributed to the institute’s success. On this occasion the acting Reactor also honoured the scientific research institute with an honorary award from the university: the Shota Rustaveli medal.
Under the framework of the conference institute’s scientists Guram Memarne, Mariam Metreveli, Zoya Sikharulidze, Izolda Machutadze, Avtandil Meskhidze and Galina Mefarishvili were also awarded certificates for their special contribution to the institute’s development.
The key speaker of the occasion addressed the participants with a welcome speech. They also extended best wishes and congratulated the Autonomous region of Adjara on the anniversary.
Representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture, National Academy of Sciences of Georgia, Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Scientific Research Centre of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia and the G. Eliava Institute of Bacteriophage, Microbiology and Virology, Tbilisi Medical University and Akaki Tsereteli State University were also present.
The key speaker of the conference, speaking on the importance of biodiversity called for joint action. They also urged the scientific community to develop techniques that can promote biodiversity.
