The Center for Peace Education – “Youth Platform for Peace Building” was opened at Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University, which will provide students with opportunities to study conflicts, historical facts, and modern processes.
Georgian Minister of Education, Science and Youth Givi Mikanadze, along with the Chairman of the Government of Adjara Zurab Pataradze and First Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia Giorgi Volski, participated in the opening event.
The guests were hosted by
Tite Aroshidze, Rector of Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University, and provided information about the activities of the center.
“In terms of strengthening the ties and peace processes with our compatriots in the temporarily occupied territories, the functioning of the center takes on a special task.
Educating the future generation creates a solid foundation for peaceful policy implementation and building a united, strong state. This is why we need to strengthen the potential of universities and academia. Through peace education, I believe, we will be able to expand connections and restore trust, which is an important prerequisite for uniting our country,” said
Givi Mikanadze.
Within the event, an exhibition of thematic paintings by pupils of Fairy Public School and a performance by creative groups of Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University were organized.
The opening of the center was also attended by representatives of the legislative and executive authorities, members of the Adjara and Abkhazia governments, and other guests.
The Center for Peace Studies of
Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University will actively cooperate with international and regional organizations, and both Georgian and foreign researchers and experts will be involved in the programs. It is with their participation that trainings, seminars, research projects, public discussions, and youth initiatives are planned.
The Center for Peace Studies is already functioning in Samtskhe-Javakheti, Sokhumi, and Gori State Universities.
The centre aims to provide students and youth with academic and practical opportunities in peacebuilding, conflict analysis, dialogue, and reconciliation. The Center will combine education, research, and practical activities, promoting critical thinking and engaging young people actively in social processes.
