Georgia: Forest Day was celebrated in the Botanical Garden on the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture initiative on October 11, 2024.
Minister Otar Shamugia congratulated the speakers on their professional day and thanked them for their contribution to the development of the forest sector. The event also featured the year’s most successful speakers, who were given awards and symbolic gifts for particularly difficult and risky activities. The video clip “I am a speaker” was presented at the event.
Otar Shamugia said, “I congratulate each speaker on their professional day and thank them for their work. This is a praiseworthy, honourable and, at the same time, very responsible profession. Tellers must have proper working conditions, decent pay and equipment.”
He also mentioned, “We’ve been worried about this for years. Part of our agenda is to further develop our forest agency in the future. The foresters have social guarantees, appropriate infrastructure, and equipment to carry out their operations more efficiently. Once again, I thank every foreman who serves our country graciously.”
‪According to the minister, the forest sector’s results will benefit the country’s population even more in the future. Proper management, protection, maintenance, and restoration of forest resources are required to achieve these benefits, and foresters play a special role in this process.
Maia Bitadze, Chairman of the Committee on Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of the Parliament of Georgia, attended the celebration of Forest Day.
The committee chairman congratulated the speakers on the professional day and thanked them for the complex and specific work called working in the forest.
“On behalf of our Committee of the Parliament of Georgia, I would like to express my support to each speaker of the Ministry and the Agency. “We will do as much as we can, together with the Ministry, to improve the quality of the agency’s work,” – said Maia Bitadze.
Kakha Kakabadze, Deputy Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture, congratulated the speakers on their professional day. The Deputy Minister thanked the spokesperson and representatives of NGOs and international organizations for their support in protecting the country’s unique resources.
According to his statement, the scale of reforestation is increasing every year; however, illegal deforestation is still a challenge, and the National Forest Agency and the Department of Environmental Supervision need to be strengthened with technical and human resources.
At the event, Kakha Tsertsvadze, the head of the National Forest Agency, awarded famous faces, athletes, actors, singers and media representatives for their constant involvement in information campaigns.
Representatives of the legislative body, academic circle, environmental non-governmental and partner international organizations attended the event commemorating the Day of Forests.
