Bottom deepening work begins in Anaklia deepwater harbor – the first diving ship (Tristao Da Cunha) has entered the marine aquatorium of the future port. After completing the legal procedures, the ship will begin work on building a submarine channel.
The Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia shared glimpses of the bottom deepening works on its official Facebook Page on August 1, 2026, Saturday. The Ministry also shared a small note about the works along with its glimpses.
During the entry of the Jan De Nul fleet’s dredging ship into the Anaklia aquatorium, Zurab Sichinava, Director of Anaklia Maritime Port LLC, was on board the ship, who, together with the ship’s captain and representatives of the contractor company, got acquainted with the specifics of the deepening works on site.
In Anaklia, the bottom of the sea aquatorium will be deepened up to 17.5 meters, and at the next stage, a 1,380-meter-long wave break will be built. The mentioned works will be carried out according to the predetermined plan.
Construction works are actively underway in the marine aquatorium of the future port, which is carried out by the world-renowned Belgian company Jan De Nul N.V. (Jan De Nul ENV), a member of the “Big Four” together with Georgian partners.
Georgian government is building Anaklia deepwater harbor with the world-approved “Landlord” model. This model will enable the state to develop the Port of Anaklia by partnering with not one, but several other states and companies, which will create the best conditions for loading freight to the port and, therefore, for its maximum effective operation.
It is noteworthy that along with the creation of port infrastructure, the government will provide transportation infrastructure access to Anaklia – road and railway.
