Georgia: Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University (BSU) expressed its deep sorrow over the death of Guram Chaganava, a well-known scientist and educator of many generations, Emeritus Professor of the Department of Psychology.
The university shared a note on Guram’s achievements on its official Facebook page on Sunday, January 12, 2025. BSU noted, “Our condolences to the family, colleagues, and the university community. Mr. Guram’s name will be unforgettable in the history of our university.”
The University also commented that Gurami’s death is a big loss for Georgian Psychology School as well as Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University.
All the Georgians are deeply saddened by this news. According to the public, Guram was a very special and wonderful person. One person in the comment section of the university also stated that Guram was the best person and a real professional in his job.
In its post, the university mentioned,” Gurami’s contribution was great in developing the Georgian psychological school. Its name is associated with the formation of psychology in the university, undergraduate, and graduate programs. Psychology is still one of the most in-demand specialties, and it is highly competitive every year.”
According to BSU Professor Guram Chaganava is the author of four monographs. They are listed below:
- Actual problems in mood psychology,
- Actual problems of historical and social psychology,
- Experimental Foundations of Appropriation Psychology,
- Psychology of fear.
Several of his articles are dedicated to the interesting problematics of linguistics and history.
Batumi State University also stated that along with his successful scientific and research work, Guram was a great lecturer and person. He taught lecture courses in various fields of psychology, systematically participated in local and international conferences, edited the periodic edition “Psychological Researches”, and was a member of the University’s Academic Council and Pedagogy Specialized Council and Head of the University Ethics Commission.
Background History of Guram Chaganava
Professor Guram Chaganava was born on December 25, 1941, in the family of a military servant. In 1964, he was enrolled in the specialty of Russian language, literature, and English language at Batumi Pedagogical Institute, and graduated in 1969. From 1981 to 2006, he worked at the Batumi Niko Berdzenishvili Institute, from 1982 – at the Shota Rustaveli Pedagogical Institute.
Guram Chaganava’s candidate and doctoral theses are dedicated to the issues of social psychology. In 1995 he defended his PhD thesis on the topic: “Problems of appropriation psychology”. In 2000, he was awarded the scientific-pedagogical title of professor in the specialty of social psychology. Shota Rustaveli State University was a full professor of the Department of Social Sciences from 2009 to 2021. From 2010 to 2021, he was the head of the Department of Social Sciences. From 2021, he was an emeritus professor of the Department of Psychology.
