Akaki Tsereteli State Theater building is in difficult relief. In recent years, water from pipelines has been leaking into the walls and damaging the building. Over time, the roof and engineering communications have also been damaged, so the theater building needs complete rehabilitation.
Construction started in 2024, and the winning electronic tender company, Buildings Ltd, is leading the work. The National Agency for the Protection of Cultural Heritage allocated 13 660 231 GEL for the statue’s rehabilitation.
Theater in Chiatura was founded in 1894; since 1910, it has had a permanent office. The new building was built in 1949, and the theater was named after Akaki Tsereteli. Akaki Tsereteli’s figure is highlighted on the central facade of the building, and the statue “Victory” is crowned on the front. On the ceiling is a painting panel made by the painter-monumentalist Robert Sturua.
