Tbilisi: The Council of Europe office in Georgia has successfully organized a pilot project program called “positive parenting.” This was organized with the active support of the Pompidou group.
The events under this pilot project were organized in the National Crime Prevention and Probation Agency, Special Penitentiary Service, the Juvenile Referral Center, Care Agency, and the Educational Institutions Mandatory Service in different region.
It is worth noting that the project was started with the cooperation of the Special Penitentiary Service’s Convict Resocialization-Rehabilitation Department. The project was held within the framework of the 2022-2023 action plan of the National Strategy which was introduced for the Prevention of Drug Abuse throughout the region and country as well.
The program’s main objective was to familiarize female and male convicts of penitentiary institutions with the role and significance of positive parenting in child development. This positive role of parenting can be used to create a safe environment for children and youth. Moreover, it can also help to prevent drug abuse.
The project also includes the concept of natural parenting its styles, and effective and cooperative parent-child relationships. It also has to highlight the child’s development, strategies for managing challenging behaviours and the different techniques for effective parents as well.
The project’s events have received many positive responses from the participants. While speaking about the program one participant said that “this was a positive and beneficial course, it has shown me that the family is essential for children’s health development. Another program participant from the 15th Penitentiary Institution of Xani shared ” this is a great initiative of the organizers. This will help me understood the emotion of my child as well.”
As per the project’s representative this will include evaluating the pilot program’s effectiveness. This can be done by revising the program and publishing support material for parents to give and spend quality time with their children.
