Georgia: Prosecutor’s office charges one for a road accident

The prosecutor’s office of the Republic of Georgia has filed charges against one person for the death of two pedestrians. He caused the death of these two people due to a road accident in Kutaisi with his rash driving.

The investigation in this regard was conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.The investigation carried out by the Ministry of Internal Affairs found that on February 15, while driving in the city of Kutaisi the accused violated the requirements of the Law of Georgia “On Traffic”, The accused also failed to ensure the safe driving of the vehicle and with his rash driving hit two pedestrians on the pedestrian crossing.

As a result of the fatal accident one of them fell to the right side, however both victims died on the spot.After receiving the initial report about the occurrence of the alleged accident the law enforcement officers arrested the accused on February 16.

He was charged under Article 276, Part 8 of the Criminal Code of Georgia ( for violation of traffic safety or operation rules by the person who drives the responsible vehicle, which caused the loss of two people’s lives) which is punishable by 6 to 10 years imprisonment.

Meanwhile, the prosecutor’s office applies to the court with a petition for the detention of the accused as a preventive measure within the time limit set by the law.

It has come to light that in recent times the number of accident cases has increased. The traffic department and some other responsible organizations have launched a drive against rash driving. Strict legal provisions have also been introduced to reduce the number of accidents on the roads across the country as well.

Road accidents have grown not just in Georgia but throughout the world . The prosecution office has appealed to the people to drive safely to avoid the unwanted damages on the roads. People have been also advised to follow all traffic rules to avoid the penalty of the law.
