Georgia: In a fight against drugs authorities arrest 18 people including eight drug dealer

The  Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia has arrested 18 people for drug crimes. This big criminal gang also includes eight drug dealers. Huge recovery of the drugs has been effected from culprits.

They were arrested during a joint operation by the employees of the Central Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Tbilisi Police Department, Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti, Imereti, Adjara, Kvemo Kartli and Guria police departments in Tbilisi and the regions. The detainees include both the Georgian as well as the foreign nationals.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs shared information on its official Facebook page as well. As per the Facebook post those arrested are guilty of  illegal possession of drugs and attempt to possess narcotic drugs.

There is provision of twenty years of jail term if the accused are found to be  guilty after trial. The Georgian law are very strict against the drug  related offences.

As per the information shared by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the law enforcement agencies also conducted a secret sting operation to trace the illegal activities of the gang. There was also recoding of the audio-visual evidence against this person recorded secretly.

The seized drugs included “Heroin”, “Alpha PVP”, “Buprenorphine”, “MDMA”, “Methadone”, “Suboxin”, “Marijuana” and the narcotic plant hemp. Further investigation is being conducted under sections 260, 19 260, 262, 265, and 273 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.

The law enforcement agencies of Georgia are very active in cracking the drug gangs operating across the different regions of the country. In the past year also many drives were launched to contain the activities of these anti-social elements as well. The Ministry of the internal Affairs said that it is planning to spearhead its drive against the drugs shortly. Moreover the legal provision will be also made more strict.

There is huge public support to the law enforcement agency  for these drives to make the country drug free.
