The Commonwealth of Dominica welcomed New Zealand’s new High Commissioner, Her Excellency Linda Charlotte Te Puni, on June 19, 2026, Friday. The event marked the beginning of her diplomatic role and opened the door for stronger cooperation between the two nations.
The Prime Minister of Dominica, Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit, shared the glimpses of the meeting on the official Facebook Page on June 22, 2026, Monday. The PM also shared a small note about the meeting and said, “We had a productive discussion on opportunities to strengthen cooperation between our two countries as Dominica continues to advance its sustainable development agenda.”
According to the Dominican Prime Minister, it was a fruitful meeting, and from now on, both parties will be able to work together, and this will further help them in exploring areas that may benefit each other.
According to the small note shared by Dr. Skerrit, it should be noted that a post-credential meeting examined possible ways to strengthen Dominican-New Zealand relations and was characterized as productive.
An area of particular focus for both parties is Dominica’s ongoing dedication to sustainable development, with continued progress toward economic growth, environmental sustainability, and climate change adaptation requiring continued international partnerships.
Furthermore, New Zealand’s capacity development in these areas can yield productive opportunities for both nations in cooperation and the sharing of knowledge. Also, the appointment of High Commissioner Te Puni marks an important advancement in strengthening the ties between Dominica & New Zealand.
It is also worth noting that as the two nations try to build upon the power of their diplomatic relationship, this new chapter brings many opportunities to collaborate and create innovative solutions towards sustainable development.
