Georgia: Education Minister apprise MPs on various projects

Giorgi Amilakhvar, The Minister of Education and Science of Georgia apprised the Georgian MPs about the various projects and politics of the Ministry. He was Speaking in front of MPs at Minister's Hour and said that the Ministry is committed to improving the education sector in the coming years.

Giorgi Amilakhvar, The Minister of Education and Science of Georgia apprised the Georgian MPs about the various projects and politics of the Ministry. He was Speaking in front of MPs at Minister’s Hour and said that the Ministry is committed to improving the education sector in the coming years.

Speaking on this special occasion, the Minister paid special attention to the project worth 1 billion GEL, which was initiated under the guidance of Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili, meant for the large-scale construction and rehabilitation of schools.

Giorgi Amilakhvari further added that the top priority of the Georgian government is to promote the development of educational infrastructure throughout Georgia. According to him, construction/rehabilitation work is in full swing to improve the infrastructure of both school and vocational schools.

 According to Giorgi Amilakhvari: “our top aim is to provide an equally accessible learning environment in schools of the country, as well as to provide a healthy educational infrastructure across the country.” For this purpose, a project worth 1 billion GEL, which means large-scale construction-rehabilitation of schools, has already been started.

As per information from Minister Almost, construction/complete rehabilitation works of 71 public schools was carried out in the year 2019–22, while 200 public schools underwent partial renovation

Currently 150 public schools are under construction and rehabilitation works. Construction of 75 more public schools is planned to begin as early as 2024, and 700.0 million GEL will be spent in total.

It is worth mentioning that as a result of the project implementation, by the end of 2027, all public general education institutions will have better infrastructure conditions.

The Minister further spoke about the construction/rehabilitation works aimed at improving the infrastructure of vocational schools. Minister said the construction of 4 new vocational colleges and three new workshops has been completed this year. At the same time, two vocational colleges were fully rehabilitated.

Speaking on the professional schools and colleges, Giorgi Amilakhvar noted that four new professional colleges and four new workshops are being constructed at this stage. The total budget for the improvement of the infrastructure of vocational schools for the year 2019 – 2022 was more than 36.0 million GEL.

Minister said that country’s educational sector will see complete transformation with implementation of projects and programs.
