Rustaveli Theater celebrates the legacy of Ramaz Chkhikvadze

Georgia: The Rustaveli National Theater hosted a special evening to commemorate the 95th anniversary of the birth of Ramaz Chkhikvadze, one of the most renowned and influential actors in Georgian history.

The event was organized with the support of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth and the charity foundation “Kartu”.

The evening featured a documentary film about Chkhikvadze’s life and career and a performance of his famous roles by the current theatre actors. The audience also enjoyed a musical tribute by the Georgian National Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Vakhtang Kakhidze.

The event was attended by many distinguished guests, including Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth Thea Tsulukiani, who praised Chkhikvadze’s contribution to Georgian culture and identity.

She said, “Ramaz Chkhikvadze was not only a brilliant actor but also a patriot, a teacher, and a role model for generations of Georgians. He embodied the spirit and values of our nation, and we are proud to celebrate his legacy today.”

Another notable guest was Bidzina Ivanishvili, the founder of the charity foundation “Kartu” and a great supporter of Georgian culture. He said, “Ramaz Chkhikvadze was a friend and a mentor to me, and I am honoured to be here to pay tribute to him.

He was a master of craft and a visionary who inspired many artists and creators. His work will live on in our hearts and minds.”

The event also brought together Chkhikvadze’s family, friends, and colleagues, who shared their memories and anecdotes about the actor. His son, Giorgi Chkhikvadze, said, “My father was a humble and generous man who loved his family and country.

He was always curious and eager to learn new things and never stopped working and improving his skills. He was a legend and a human being, with his joys and sorrows, strengths and weaknesses. He taught me everything I know, and I am grateful for his guidance and support.”

The evening ended with a standing ovation from the audience, who expressed their admiration and gratitude for Chkhikvadze’s artistic legacy. The Rustaveli National Theater announced that it will dedicate its next season to Chkhikvadze’s works and launch a scholarship program for young actors in his name.
