Georgia: The International Society of Mountaineering and Expeditions Exploreweb, on its official website, commented on the death of famous Georgian mountaineer Archil Badriashvili, the owner of “Golden Tserakini,” and expressed grief over his death.
The article “Eternal Memory of a Special Person and Hiker” refers to Archil Badriashvili’s remarkable achievements.
“His death has deeply saddened the mountaineering community,” says the article, which uses quotes from the letters of condolences from Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and world-renowned mountaineer Reinhold Messner.
The article also says that Archil Badriashvili left an indelible mark in the history of Georgian mountaineering.
They remind everyone that a 34-year-old famous Georgian mountaineer died in an accident on August 10 at the peak of Shkelda.
Badriashvili died on August 10 in an accident on 4,388m Shkhelda Peak in Georgia. When the weather turned sour, he was climbing with Nariman Japaridze, Avto Japaridze, and Beshken Pilpan. As they descended from the summit, lightning struck close to Badriashvili, knocking him from the ridge.
His partners connected to a Russian radio frequency to call for help. The Russians notified Georgian authorities, and Badriashvili’s partners were rescued the next day. A helicopter subsequently spotted Badriashvili’s body, and rescue services retrieved it on August 12.
Archil Badriashvili, with Giorgi Tepnadze and Bakar Gelashvili, owns “Piolets d’Or.” Mountaineers were awarded a prestigious international award for hiking the Saragrar peak 2022. They chose a unique route to climb the 7,300-m-high peak, which an international jury deemed an exceptional achievement.
The deceased climber’s other achievements include hiking the peak Nanga Parbat. He and Giorgi Tefnadze were the first Georgians to climb the 8126 m high peak of the Karakorum mountain system in Pakistan.
It is noteworthy that Archil Badriashvili and Giorgi Tefnadze were the first to run a new route in Ushba after Mikheil Khergiani’s team.
The Ministry of Culture and Sports of Georgia will once again express its sorrow over Archil Badriashvili’s death and honor his memory and great contribution to the development of Georgian mountaineering.
