Five held for illegal entry in Georgia: Border Police

The Georgian border police have arrested five citizens of foreign countries. They were detained by the Georgian border police force while trying to enter Georgia illegally by crossing the border.

Tbilisi: The Georgian border police have arrested five citizens of foreign countries. They were detained by the Georgian border police force while trying to enter Georgia illegally by crossing the border.

It is worth noting that in the last many years, the cases of human trafficking in Georgia have been increasing. The officials of the Georgian law enforcement agencies have launched many attempts to curb this problem in coordination with many regional and international government and non-government agencies.

The information was shared by the border police officials who worked under the Ministry of External Affairs. The border police in an official statement said, “While continuing our fight against human trafficking, we have arrested five people who were trying to enter Georgia illegally. They were trying to enter Georgia from the eastern side of the country from Azerbaijan. We will continue our fight to stop illegal migration in Georgia.”

According to the Ministry officials, the border police noticed unusual activity at the checkpoint. The accused person was trying to enter forcefully and cameras captured clips. The services of sniffer dogs were also availed.

All the accused have now been booked under the various provisions of the Georgian criminal code. They were also charged with crossing the Georgian border illegally.

The legal experts claimed that all the charges imposed against them were severe and strict. They also claimed that once proved all the accused can be sentenced to a minimum of five years of rigorous imprisonment.

On the other hand a Ministry of Internal Affairs official disclosed future plans to control the illegal entry of people from other countries. According to them in the future more CCTV will be installed at the checkpoints.

Human trafficking is the biggest problem of the present time. Every year a large number of people take illegal routes to cross the border of another country. In the last two to three decades, many regional and international conflicts have also fuelled this problem. Illegal migration also causes many precious  lives and property every year as well.
