Georgia: Agriculture Ministry holds Waste and chemicals management presentation

Tbilisi: The presentation of the fact-finding mission report on waste and chemicals management in Georgia was held at the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture. The presentation was attended by Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture Solomon Pavliashvili.

Tbilisi: The presentation of the fact-finding mission report on waste and chemicals management in Georgia was held at the Environment and Agriculture Ministry. The presentation was attended by Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture Solomon Pavliashvili.

 The report of the fact-finding mission on waste and chemicals management in Georgia was prepared by researchers from the Stockholm Environmental Protection Institute (SEI) and experts invited from different countries of the world.

 Solomon Pavliashvili thanked the Agency for International Development Cooperation of Sweden (Sida) and the Embassy of Sweden in Georgia for their support in the management of waste and chemicals and for the importance of the analysis of the ministry institutional structure, functions and technical capabilities  presented in the report.

“The report presented today is of special importance. The proposed vision makes it possible to strengthen waste management policies, regulation, monitoring and enforcement in the country. 

In this process, special attention is paid to the issue of effective provision of access to services for the public. I think that with close cooperation with Sweden’s International Development Cooperation Agency, we will be able to achieve the desired result,” Solomon Pavliashvili said.

 The aim of the project is to help Georgia in fulfilling its obligations by increasing the efficiency and functionality of waste and chemical management practices.

„ “Sweden is an active supporter of Georgia in the direction of improvement of waste and chemical management. “I think the prepared document will help the country in improving its waste management policy,” said Eric Iles, head of Sweden’s International Development Agency.

 The meeting was attended by Khatuna Zaldastanishvili, Head of the Environmental Program of the Embassy of Sweden in Georgia and representatives of relevant agencies and services introduced to the agriculture ministry system.
