Georgia: The First Deputy Prime Minister of Georgia and Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Levan Davitashvili recently held a meeting and discussed the issues of the current trade-economic cooperation between Georgia and Armenia with the Minister of Economy of the Republic of Armenia Gevorg Papoyan. First Deputy Prime Minister in Armenia also discussed ways to further deepen the bilateral ties between the nations.
Minister Levan Davitashvili said during the meeting that Armenia is one of the most important trade-economic partners of Georgia. He further added that a close dialogue with the Armenian government and business sector is a very important prerequisite for making these relations grow even more favorable and successful.
Davitashvili also said that they have a close dialogue with the Armenian Ministry of Economy. This cooperation is complex and includes trade relations, relations in the fields of energy, transport, telecommunications, tourism and investments.
During the meeting, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Genadi Arveladze and Georgian Ambassador to Armenia Giorgi Sharvashidze were also present
Furthermore, Heads of economic institutions of both the countries provided information about the main economic indicators. They also discussed trends in Georgia and Armenia, along with the current business and investment environment.
The First Deputy Prime Minister said that having practical meetings is highly important. These will help establish a closer relationship with the business sector. He further added that these meetings promote investment activities, and trade encouragement. The trade turnover between the two nations is almost USD1 billion.
According to Levan Davitashvili, the conversation also touched on large regional transport and infrastructure projects. According to him, it was particularly important to sign a declaration of strategic partnership in 2024. This has further increased the dynamics of cooperation between the two countries.
In addition, Levan Davitashvili received exhaustive information from the Armenian Minister of Economy about the prospects of Georgian companies in Armenia. “The investment that the Bank of Georgia group has made in the financial sector of Armenia is very important,” he added.
This was one of the most important investments they have talked about as it is a good opportunity for the financial institutions of the two countries.
