Tbilisi: The Ministry of Defense of Georgia held an information meeting with representatives of voluntary organizations, during which they held discussions on the draft of the new Defense Code.
Within the framework of the meeting, the representatives of the Georgian Defense Forces working on the new Defense Code told the guests that the changes made in the draft law, on the contrary, strengthened the principle of total defense, which means ensuring a broad involvement of the society in defense of the country.
Accordingly, the changes envisage more citizens to prepare, enable and train them to defend the country. In this context, military personnel cited relevant examples of the renewed National Recruit Service, the prerequisite for strong reservation and creation of new mechanisms in the field of defense, to increase the effectiveness of cooperation with voluntary organizations.
The meeting noted that the current norm for the temporary withdrawal of registered weapons during the war is international practice, including in NATO member and partner countries such as France, Spain, Lithuania, Estonia, etc. Sh. In Georgia, this norm has existed since 1997, and its main purpose is to provide prevention of possible crime during the war and public order locally in case of specific circumstances.
It is noteworthy that in various media outlets and social networks, during wartime, misinformation about the rule of temporary withdrawal of registered weapons is being spread. Therefore, the Defense Agency deemed it advisable to hold a thematic meeting with the representatives of voluntary organizations and provide them with the right information and clearance of matters.
