Georgia Finance Minister speaks at “EU-Georgia Business Forum”

Minister, while addressing the forum, stated that “Georgia’s reform agenda has always been based on European aspirations and candidate status. Moreover, this is another bid which gives a strong motivation to the country to continue reforms in accordance with EU regulations.

The minister also stressed the importance of holding this forum after the European Commission’s recommendation to grant Georgia candidate status.
During his speech, the minister also underlined Georgia’s progress in the past two years and this year in the direction of enhancing the macroeconomic parameters. These parameters, along with other factors, are very important For a journey toward full-fledged membership of the EU. As per the Finance Minister, the country has achieved significant progress on fiscal parameters in a record short time.

The minister further said that Our medium and short fiscal policy aims to keep all parameters at a standard level. The Republic of Georgia follows one of the most strict fiscal disciplines and gives priority to the private sector as the main driver of economic development in the present era. Thus, the government is investing great effort in an economy that boosts efficiency and simplifies business environment and procedures.

Commenting on the infrastructure projects, he said, “Infrastructure projects support the country’s potential to turn it a transit, logistics, tourism and business hub.

It is worth mentioning that Georgia is making investments in human capital, public finance management and good governance in a fiscally sustainable way to boost the economy.

The government also aimed the construction of the East-West Highway, the Black Sea Submarine Cable Project in a short time, along with the construction of the Anaklia Deepwater Port, and others, said Minister of Finance Lasha Khutsishvili.

Moreover, on Georgia’s implementation of international sanctions, the minister said that the country respects all international financial sanctions as per legal procedure and actively cooperates with the EU, the United States (USA) and the United Kingdom to ensure the implementation of sanctions.

Lasha Khutsishvili, also said that the government continues to take care of the country’s business environment for reforms in various sectors to happen. He expressed hope that the business and trade relations between the EU and Georgia will deepen in the future and will make the economy of the country more progressive.
