Tbilisi: The members of the Executive Council of the German Reconstruction and Credit Bank (KfW) discussed ongoing joint projects and future perspectives at a working meeting with representatives of the Protected Areas Agency of Georgia. The German Ambassador to Georgia, Ernest Peter Fischer also attended the meeting.
The Protected Territories Agency and the German Reconstruction Credit Bank (KfW) are connected by many years of successful cooperation. Ambassador Peter Fischer also reiterated the continued support for Georgia from the KfW to help nation keep up its environmental and other ventures of development.
The development project of Borojomi-Kharagauli National Park is highlighted as the first precedent implemented with the support of the German Reconstruction Credit Bank (KfW). Administrative building and eco-touristic infrastructure were arranged within the project.
“The fact that the protection of the biodiversity of Georgia is a priority for the government of Georgia. We are glad that we have such good partners in Georgia, with whom we protect nature, protect important species.
We have a very successful partnership with the Protected Areas Agency, implementing important projects to ensure biodiversity continues. We are happy that the Georgian government also has very long-term plans and goals in this direction,” said Christian Leibach, executive board member of the German Reconstruction Credit Bank (KFW).
It is noteworthy that, in 2022, the Protected Areas Agency and the German Reconstruction Credit Bank (KFW) signed a project “Biodiversity and Sustainable Local Development in Georgia”, within the framework of which, over the next 6 years, the Protected Area Agency will receive 16,250 million euros for promoting the creation and expansion of protected areas.
At the working meeting, the parties also discussed ongoing projects of the Protected Areas Agency, the Caucasus Nature Foundation (CNF) and the World Nature Protection Foundation (WWF) in Georgia.
