The first working session was held by the Minister of Internally Displaced Persons, Labor, Health, and Social Welfare of Georgia, which was created to promote the implementation of the biopsychosocial model of disability status.
The Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons, Labor, Health, and Social Welfare of Georgia shared the glimpses of the working session on its official Facebook Page on June 3, 2026, Wednesday. The Georgian Health Ministry also shared a small note about the talks held at the session, along with its glimpses.
If oral disability status today is based solely on a medical diagnosis, the new model will be based on a comprehensive assessment of oral function, taking into account not only health but also psychological and social aspects that influence a person’s daily life and community engagement. This approach is defined by the law of Georgia on “Rights of Persons with Disabilities”.
As Mikheil Sarjveladze noted, the goal of granting status with a biopsychosocial model is to protect the rights of disabled persons, to maximize their needs, and to provide appropriate services.
At the meeting, stakeholders discussed important issues for implementing a biopsychosocial model, discussed the specifics of the Council’s work, and agreed on the next steps.
As noted at the meeting, the issues needed for decision-making will be prepared and processed by working groups, making the Council’s work more efficient.
The meeting was attended by the members of the Coordinating Council – representatives of the Ministry of Health, the Parliament of Georgia, various public agencies, the community of persons with disabilities, and donor organizations, as well as guests.
