Tbilisi: The National Archive of Georgia is hosting the 3rd International Archival Film Festival. The festival will be held from September 17 to 20 at the National Archive of Georgia’s cinema.
Information about this international archival film festival was shared on the National Archive’s official Facebook page. According to the post “From September 17 to 20, the National Archive Cinema of Georgia is hosting the third international festival of archive films.”
It further stated “This year’s theme of the program selected by 14 countries is “Cinema—Chronicle of History. “The film archive organizations of the USA, Czech Republic, Malta, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Croatia, Poland, Estonia, Hungary, Bulgaria, Peru and Moldova will present the films preserved in their archives for the Georgian audience.”
On the very first day festival was opened with the film “Alaverdoba” by Giorgi Shengelaya. The audience saw the original version of the film which was handed over to the National Archives a few months ago.
Notably on the very first day the event was opened by Deputy Minister of Justice Buba Lomuashvili and Director General of the National Archives Teona Yashvili. Giorgi Kakabadze the director of the central archive of film and photo-documents of the National Archive, Charles Faruja, director of the Maltese National Archive, Heidi Holmstrom, representative of the US National Archive,Croatian director Ivan Salaj and many other officials associated with the film industry attended the event as well.
These officials also informed the audience about the screenings of multiple films planned for this international archival film festival. The festival will close on September 20 with the second film of the Georgian program “The First Swallow” by Nana Mchedlidze (1975) presented by the National Film Center of Georgia.
The show is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of actor Dodo Abashidze’s birth. It is worth noting that the National Archive of Georgia established the Tbilisi International Archive Film Festival in 2022. Attendance is totally free and films will be shown in the original language with English subtitles.
