Georgia: The Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture Solomon Pavliashvili attended the community forum on reducing the risk of disasters caused by climate change which was held in Georgia on March 27, 2025, Thursday.
Notably, topics of high importance like climate change adaptation opportunities, threat forecasting, development of agrometeorological services, and the importance of climate change education and awareness-raising events were discussed at the forum.
It should be noted that along with the Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture Solomon Pavliashvili, the Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure Mzia Giorgobiani, and the Deputy Permanent Representative of the UN Development Programme (UNDP) in Georgia Nils Christensen also attended the forum.
“Reducing the risk of disasters caused by climate change is one of the most important tasks not only for our country but also for the whole world.” Within the framework of the program “Reducing the risk of disasters caused by climate change in Georgia“, appropriate infrastructure will be installed in 11 river pools, which will provide opportunities for early reporting and prevention,” said Solomon Pavliashvili.
The participants also discussed the importance of community-based risk management, danger maps prepared within the program, and implemented and planned awareness-raising activities.
“Georgia is an example that we should follow, to reduce the risk of climate disasters even further.” It is an honor for us to be a partner of Georgia in this direction,” said Nils Christensen, Deputy Permanent Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to Georgia.
It is worth noting that the winners of environmental competitions held within the framework of the program “Reduction of the risk of disasters caused by climate change in Georgia” were announced and awarded within the community forum.
It should be noted that the meetings for the discussion of the project “Reducing the risk of disasters caused by climate change in Georgia” are held regularly for the better implementation of the project and more profitable results.
