Tbilisi: Irakli Karseladze, the Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure inspected the ongoing construction of the Khulo-Zarzma road. In a report, following the inspection, the ministry publicized – “Despite a number of challenges, including landslides, this year we manage to lay asphalt on 10km road from Khulo and Zarzma sides. We have good progress on the artificial buildings, which creates conditions for the completion of the project already next year and the most important road of Khulo-Zarzma provided by asphalt covering to be exploited.”
The renewed road of Khulo-Zarzma will connect Samtskhe-Javakheti and Adjara in the shortest way, the road goes through difficult geographical and geological relief. Its rehabilitation and reconstruction will help to improve the socio-economic conditions of the population of the two regions. The renewed road will connect Beshumi mining-ski resort with Batumi and Tbilisi, which will promote tourism development as well.
 The 47 km road rehabilitation and reconstruction project is divided into 3 sections, where, in total, 2 lanes of asphalt-concrete cover will be laid. At this stage, on the first and second sections, in total 42 km, asphalt-concrete cover arrangement, bridges and other artificial structures are being constructed.
 The total cost of the works planned on these sections will exceed 95.6 million GEL. The completion of the works on the second section is scheduled by the end of the year. While the construction of the 47 km road is planned to be completed by 2023.
Along with the Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, Irakli Karseladze, The Autonomy of Adjara, The Chairman of the Government of the Yuri Republic, Tornike Rizhvadze and the State Trustee of Samtskhe-Javakheti Region, Besik Amiranashvili also visited and inspected the site of construction.Â
