The Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia has launched the formulation of new management plans. These plans will be implemented in the areas falling under the Emerald Network territories. This will further be implemented with the cooperation of the Swedish government under the project “Save Nature” Georgia.
The discussion in this regard was held recently by the members of the concerned authorities during a working meeting held in Kharagauli . It is also to be added that under the framework of the program a total of 13 emerald area management plans will be prepared . Soon the important work on the first versions of emerald area management plans throughout Georgia will be completed.
It is also worth mentioning that proposed management plans for the 4 areas of the emerald network within the municipalities of Zestafoni, Chiaturi, Sachkheri, Khashuri, and Kharagauli were discussed at the working meeting held in Kharagauli.
This significant meeting was attended by the representatives of the managing unit of the “Save Nature Georgia” project of the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture of Georgia along with the representative of the Kharagalli City Hall and of the Ilia Chavchavadze State University. All the representatives discussed various issues related to the emerald areas in a discussion format and learned all the necessary information for the work process of developing management plans.
It is worth mentioning that as per the responsibility assumed under the Convention on the Protection of European Wildlife and Natural Habitats (Berne), the preparation of management plans for the emerald network is essential for the effective management of emerald areas and the conservation of Georgia’s biodiversity. The involvement of self-governing bodies and society in the mentioned areas is very important.
All the concerned representatives on this occasion said that the role of proper forest management is very important.They also stressed that the challenges of climate change and the growing threat of global warming is a serious issues that can be tackled only with the implementation of collective efforts.
