Georgia: Georgia celebrated the World Day of the Fight against Rabies with a free vaccination campaign on Saturday, September 28, 2024.
The National Food Agency organized it, and free pet vaccinations for dogs and cats are offered throughout Georgia.
The agency’s veterinarians have owned and kept pets in specially designated spaces and offices of the agency’s regional service.
This year, the agency has vaccinated more than 200,000 rabies cases; 300,000 manipulations are planned for the end of the year. As a result of comprehensive measures conducted by the National Food Agency, the number of measles cases is decreasing every year., providing a sense of safety and security to the public.
22 cases of measles in animals have been confirmed this year. Compared to 2015, cases of measles have decreased by 80%.
The World Day of the Fight against Measles was established in 2007 by the initiative of the Global Alliance for Measles Control and with the support of the World Health Organization. This day is celebrated every year in Georgia since 2013. The main message of this year’s event is “Let’s overcome the barriers in the fight against Tsof. “This means tackling prejudices in the fight against the disease by engaging all circles and coordinated work to achieve a common goal – eliminating measles from dogs by 2030.
Tickle is a dangerous zoonotic disease that causes both domestic and wild warm-blooded animals and humans to get sick. The infection spreads through contact with the ill animal (biting, scratching, running). After clinical signs, the disease ends with 100% lethality.
Measles can be prevented only by vaccination. This is why the National Food Agency is urging pet owners to take responsibility and vaccinate their pets on time, showing care and concern for the lives of both their four-legged friends and humans.
