Tbilisi: The Minister of Environment and Agriculture of Georgia, Otar Shamugia, met with the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, Zhou Xien. At the meeting, the parties talked about the importance of cordial cooperation between the two countries.

During the meeting, the Georgian Minister, Otar Shamugia, looked at the consolidation of trade and business relations between Georgia and the People’s Republic of China. The parties, at the meeting, also stressed the possibilities available within the Free Trade Agreement between Georgia and the People’s Republics of China.

As the Georgian Agriculture Minister noted: “It is noteworthy that the free trade agreement is really a significant important opportunity for Georgia to further strengthen the trade relations with China. Having involved the National Food Agency, we are actively working to increase the capacity of exports of various products. Moreover, for this process to be completed, we feel the assistance and support from the Chinese Government, for which Georgia is very grateful.

The markets of China are one of the most promising prospects for Georgian wine exports. “Even though wine exports have declined during the pandemic, the resource is big, and we hope we can maximize this potential in the future.”

The Minister also focussed on the quality of the wine produced in Georgia at the meeting and noted that many international organizations have been involved in this process. In terms of the participation of Georgian companies in international exhibitions, the state’s promotion is great.

In addition to this, for the promotion of the Georgian wine, the Minister expressed his willingness to personally participate in the opening of international exhibitions that are planned to be held in China’s Guangzhou and Shanghai this year.
