Tbilisi: Georgian Minister of Education and Science Mikheil Chkhenkeli opened the multifunctional centre of Akaki Tsereteli State University in Kutaisi. The Minister addressed the public with a welcoming speech and, in his speech, stressed the importance of establishing a new multipurpose centre at Akaki Tsereteli State University in order to create a comfortable and healthy educational environment for students.
Mikheil Chkhenkeli: “The newly opened multifunctional centre, with its updated infrastructure and comfortable environment, offers students a truly exceptional space. Here young people will have the opportunity to do different activities, plan exciting events and interact with friends, making their student life even more diverse and interesting.
I would like to emphasize especially the role of Akaki Tsereteli State University in the development of the region and in deepening the knowledge of young people. Akaki Tsereteli State University is one of the outstanding centres of higher education in our country, which from its establishment, holds a dignified place among the leading Georgian universities.
Kutaisi is really forming an educational and scientific hub throughout the region. An outstanding example of this is the close cooperation between Akaki Tsereteli State University and Kutaisi International University in the field of science and research.
Once again, I would like to emphasize the importance of establishing a multifunctional centre at Akaki Tsereteli State University. I believe that opening a new space where students can engage in educational and scientific activities will be especially exciting for young people.
2023 is really remarkable for Akaki Tsereteli State University – it is to be noted that the higher education institution is 90 years since its founding, and it is especially proud that we start celebrating this important anniversary with such important news. “
In his speech, the Minister thanked the administration of the University, the staff of the Educational and Scientific Infrastructure Development Agency and every person involved in the implementation of the project of the multifunctional centre.
As Mikheil Chkhenkel noted, one of the top priorities of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia is to improve university infrastructure throughout the country. Accordingly, a number of important projects are being implemented in this direction with the support of the Ministry.
At the opening ceremony of the Multipurpose Center, the Minister also got acquainted with the scientific and creative works of students and professors of Akaki Tsereteli State University, which were placed in the specially arranged exhibition space of the University.
During the event, the concert of the folk ensembles “Adillas” and “Kolkha” of the University was also held in the newly rehabilitated hall of the University, in which students of the performing arts speciality of the Faculty of Humanities (former music college) also participated.
The opening ceremony of the multifunctional centre was also attended by the Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Georgia Nunu Mickiewicz, Chairman of the Committee on Education and Science of the Parliament of Georgia Giorgi Amilakhvar, Majority Deputy of Kutaisi, Chairman of the Health Care Committee Zaza Lominadze, State Trustee in Imereti Zviad Shalamberidze Roland Kopaliani, Rector of Akaki Tsereteli State University and local Officials of the government.
It is noteworthy that the infrastructure project, within the framework of which the University building was rehabilitated, was implemented with the financial support of the Educational and Scientific Infrastructure Development Agency of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia. The cost of the project in total is 2 330 133.19 GEL.
Within the project, the University building was completely renovated – including conference and exhibition spaces, a 456-person concert hall, a rehearsal hall, bathrooms and changing rooms.
The opening of the multifunctional centre was dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the founding of the University. The University is planning to hold various festive events throughout the year due to this anniversary date.
