Georgia: The President of Georgia, Salome Zourabichvili, opened the conference- Women Engagement in Energy, which was held with the support of the “USAID Energy Future Enforcement Program” and organized by the Georgian Renewable Energy Development Association (GREDA) under the administration of the President of Georgia.Â
Georgian President, Salome Zourabichvili stressed the role and the contribution that women can make in the field of energy. She stated – “We need professional women in all directions, but more specifically in the field of energy, because the period and era is beginning when more professionalism will be needed.”
At the same time, the member of SEMEK, Chairman of the Regional Association of Energy Regulators (ERRA), Maia Melikidze, presented the speech – “Inclusion of Women in Energy” at the conference.
In her speech, Maia Melikidze also spoke about strengthening the role of women in the energy sector. Melkidze stated:
“Georgia is now in a very important process. The first is that a few days ago Georgia was the country that was given a very important role, in particular by “Visual Capitalist” Georgia was first placed on the world energy map. Accordingly, renewable energies are already the business card of our country.
The second is that in autumn 2026 the World Energy Regulatory Forum will be held in Georgia. The activism of women in these and other initiatives is crucial – women as decision-makers, policymakers, engineers, scientists, and formula writers for success.Â
“Now is the time for women in power to seize this opportunity. The strength is in unity. Women should be able to succeed, “said Maia Melikidze.
The conference Women Engagement in Energy aimed at raising awareness of women’s involvement in the energy sector, introducing future specialist women trends in the field, and raising awareness of women’s inclusion among energy workers and decision-makers.
One of the conference’s panels discussed the development of women’s empowerment in innovative technologies and employment prospects in Georgia’s energy sector.
