The World Bank has published the latest report about the rate of remittances per capita in different countries. As per the report Georgia stood at position nine for remittance per capita over the year.
Immigrants send part of their earned money to their countries as remittances. This is considered a source of income for poor countries. Various organisations, including the World Bank, publish statistics on this subject for various countries. Many countries across the globe tries to attract the maximum amout of money as remittances.
According to the information of the National Bank of Georgia in 2022, an amount of 4.1 billion dollars was transferred to Georgia from abroad which is an average of 1,121 US dollars per inhabitant of Georgia. Due to this huge amount of remittance Georgia ranks 9th in the world whereas In 2022 Georgia was ranked 8th.
As per the report in 2023 the most significant amount of 1.5 billion dollars was transferred to Georgia from Russia. Similarly 519 million dollars were transferred from Italy 456 million dollars from the USA, 243 million from Greece, and 229 million from Germany.
According to the report in 2023 Luxembourg received the most money per capita in remittances. In second place is the small country Tonga , which received 222 million dollars in remittances. Samoa and Croatia are in third and fourth place respectively.
According to the same report Armenia is the most dependent on remittances. In 2023 it received 1.9 billion dollars in remittances and ranked 29th in the world in terms of remittances per capita. On the other hand, Azerbaijan ranks 68th with an average remittance of USD 272 per capita.
Georgian Government officials said they expect huge growth in this amount in coming year. Papua New Guinea received the smallest amount as remittance as per the report. The following is the list of top 10 countries by remittances per capita, 2023:
