Tbilisi: The revenue services of Georgia have received the X-ray scanners from China. The ceremony was held at customs checkpoint “Sadakhlo” situated on the Georgia-Armenia borders.
The event was organised by Government of the People’s Republic of China to deliver X-ray inspection systems free of charge to the Georgian customs.
The Minister of Finance Lasha Khutsishvili and the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Georgia Chou Tsien were present at the ceremony and spoke about the importance of bilateral cooperation.
The event was also attended by Deputy Minister of Finance Ekaterine Guntsadze, Head of the Customs Department of the Revenue Service Zurab Sichinava, Head of the International Relations Department Samson Uridia, representatives of the Revenue Service and the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China.
The guests of the event on this occasion got acquainted with the baggage scanning process and customs procedures at the customs checkpoint. The transfer of x-ray inspection systems to Georgia is the result of a long-term partnership between Georgia and the People’s Republic of China.
The project was implemented on the basis of the agreement between the governments of Georgia and the People’s Republic of China on economic and technical cooperation of February 13, 2019.
It is to be added that under the agreement of cooperation a total of 7 x-ray inspection devices have already been installed on the borders of Georgia.
In addition a stationary inspection systems for railways and trucks were placed in the customs checkpoint at the “Kartsakh” as well as baggage X-ray inspection systems were installed at important land crossings such as ,SGP “Kazbegi”, “Saddhulu”, “Red Bridge”, ” Ninotsminda” and “Sarfi”.
The mentioned X-ray inspection systems is manufacutured in accordance with modern standards. This is a very important project due to the fact that it serves to protect the security of the economic border of Georgia and the safe implementation of international shipments. In this direction it is important that the Revenue Service of Georgia equips the customs checkpoints.
Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Georgia, Chou Tsien on this occasion said that “I am glad that we witnessed the implementation of this important project. China is always been a friend of Georgia and now we are strategic partners. Within the framework of cooperation the idea of the middle corridor was jointly worked on.”
He also said tha In the future the efficient operation and transparency of the Middle Corridor is very important. We believe that the customs inspection equipment manufactured by the leading company in this field in China with new technologies will help the Georgian Customs Department to improve its work.
