The sales of electric vehicles (EVs) have increased by 37 percent in the republic of Georgia. The company “Tegeta Cars” dominated the sales of electric vehicles.
As per the latest data 14% of the world’s automobile market is currently occupied by electric vehicles. This data is however not the same for all the countries. The electric cars make up 88% of the total car fleet in Norway whereas this figure is 29% in China and 23% in Great Britain.
Petre Tsakadze director of Tegeta Cars stated that “In 2023 almost 15,000 new cars were sold across the country and nearly 550 of 15,000 were electric. This figure is 37% more than the new electric cars which were sold in 2022. The progress of Georgia may be low at the international level but the market is progressing continuously”.
There are some countries where the tax policy is focused on promoting electrification of the transport vehicles. Moreover the production of electric cars is also more intensive.
To Promote the sale of the electric vehicle the government of Georgia has also taken some decisions including different customs clearance fees and free parking.
