Georgia: Tea Akhvlediani opens training seminar for women

Georgian Minister Tea Akhvlediani opened a training seminar namely "Strengthening Women's Participation in Civil Integration Process". This was held at Borjomi where the minister also addressed the participants with a speech.

Georgian Minister Tea Akhvlediani opened a training seminar namely “Strengthening Women’s Participation in Civil Integration Process”. This was held at Borjomi where the minister also addressed the participants with a speech.

According to the minister, many social workers and doctors participated in the training seminar. it is important to focus on ethnic integration goals in densely populated regions. Along with their professional activities they carry out a special mission on the ground, caring for and supporting women, informing local people about all the opportunities offered by the Georgian government under state programs in terms of health and social protection.

The Minister of State noted that during the two-day seminar, 30 participants will receive comprehensive and detailed information about state-imposed and active support mechanisms, as well as on topical issues such as women’s fundamental rights and freedoms.

The seminar “Strengthening Women’s Participation in Civil Integration Process” was held with the financial support of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Project “Leadership, Equality, Advocacy, Democracy” (LEAD), and Norway.

Bergliot Hovland, the ambassador of Norway to Georgia stated that “It’s a pleasure to be here supporting women’s rights and empowering women is a priority for Norway. We are pleased to be partnering with UNDP and the Minister of State especially when it comes to ethnic minorities and groups and ethnic minority women on this workshop. It is great to hear opinions from different representatives on both the progress achieved and the current challenges”.

Similarly Anna Chernishova Deputy Head of the United Nations Development Program said “I am happy to be in Borjomi today with the Minister of State for Reconciliation and Civil Equality and Ambassador of Norway to Georgia as well as women from Lower Kartli, Samtskhe-Javakheti, and Kakheti regions, on the occasion of International Women’s Day to discuss important issues such as gender equality, gender-based violence, misinformation, etc. We are very grateful that the Minister of State is leading the process and inviting the local people to discuss these important issues”.
