Georgia: USA Embassy supports reforms of Georgian justice ministry

The Embassy of the United States of America lauds and appreciated Georgian Ministry of Justice’s innovative reforms. The embassy also assures for possible assistance if required in the future as well.

It is to be specifically mentioned that one of the priorities of the Ministry of Justice is the rehabilitation-resocialization of convicts and former prisoners. At the same time several state programs have been created to help prisoners.The main goal of these initiatives is to promote rehabilitation and socialization of habitual criminals.

It is also worth mentioning that the Embassy of the United States of America has given the highest rating to the innovative project created by the Ministry of Justice called “PROBBOX ministry is working on exporting this project too.

It is worth mentioning that in cooperation with the Embassy of the United States of America, the area of access to services for probationary workers in Georgia has been further expanded. “PROBOX” machines will be placed in 10 territorial units across the country at this stage. By the end of this year, 10 will be added to their number.

As per the latest information “PROBBOX” is the first innovative technological device in Europe that provides electronic control and services for probationers. For the first time in Europe, probationer registration and services in addition to being announced in the Probation Bureau are carried out in the houses of justice and municipal buildings to ensure more probationary anonymity and increase the geographical area of probation opportunity.

The embassy also handed over 50 electronic surveillance devices to the agency, which constantly monitors the location during house arrest. The Vocational Training and Training Center of convicts was given a light car and digital equipment for the distribution-realization of agroproduction.

The event was attended by Deputy Minister of Justice Bubba Lomuashvili Deputy Ambassador of the United States to Georgia Alan Persel and Director of the United States Office for Cooperation with the State Anti-Drug and Law Enforcement Agencies Sara Rupert.

The Head of the National Crime Prevention, Prison Enforcement and Probation Agency Lado Kheladze, and Head of the Center for Vocational Training and Training of Convicts Tamta Demurishvili were also presented on the occasion.
